Welcome to this
Barbara Stanwyck arrived in Hollywood during the first Broadway invasion. She emerged, alongside other Broadway greats like Miriam Hopkins and Katharine Hepburn, as one of the top moneymakers in Hollywood. Though she is indeed most remembered for her evil Film Noir image, she was equally adept at playing hysterically funny comedies. She was addicted to her work. Throughout the 1930s, 40s, and 50s she was the most ruthless woman on the screen. Her characters were some of the cruelest women ever created. Audiences loved her combination of toughness, independence, and eroticism. To fill her time, she accepted almost any movie offer given to her, and her private life suffered as a result. She would eventually reject son Anthony Dion from her life entirely and remain a bitter recluse after Robert Taylor abandoned her. Stanwyck was one of the best actresses the screen has ever known. But unlike her contemporaries, Hepburn, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, not too much know about the real Barbara Stanwyck. And while her name is iconic, there is little of her online.
