Mordaunt Hall in The New York Times, July 14, 1925: "Here is one of those backstage photoplays with a very commonplace story, and yet it has been made a thoroughly worthwile film. The external eveidence is all to the effect that the directing is what made it. Monta Bell is the director. He deserves the highest praise for this piece of work turned out of his studio [MGM]."

Sally Benson in Picture Play, October, 1925: "This picture as far as I can make out was made to glorify Flo Ziegfeld and his follies. The story isn't much and shows that all that glitters is not gold."

Norma Shearer only has a small role in this movie, like most of the early MGM female stars.
Lucille Le Sueur was renamed Joan Crawford later that year.
Myrna Loy has a bit part in the film.
Prints of Pretty Ladies are scarce. The only print available is believed to be missing several portions of the film.
