Nicholson, Meredith: Author of the novel "Broken Barriers." The screen version was released in 1924, and starred Norma, James Kirkwood, and Adolphe Menjou.
Novarro, Ramon(2/6/1899-10/30/1968): Gay silent star and early Hollywood sex symbol. Ramon Novarro hit his peak as an actor and box office star in films like The Prisoner of Zenda(1922), Ben-Hur(1925), and The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg (1927) with Norma. Though he was given leading male roles in hits like Call of the Flesh (1930), and Mata Hari (1931) with Greta Garbo, Novarro's popularity faded with the talkies. Novarro went to Broadway in few unsuccessful shows but remaind in Hollywood which consisted of mostly cameos and supporting roles. Tragically, on October 30, 1968, Novarro was beaten to death in his own home by two hustlers who believed him to be hiding thousands in his home.
(I've also heard stories in which he had offered the boys money for sex, and when they got into his apartment, beat him to death, and robbed him of his money.)

Now, Voyager(1942): Norma was offered $150,000 to come on loan out to Warner Bros, and play "Charlotte Vale", a Boston spinster on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Norma liked the script, but said she didn't have the energy for the emotional scenes. Bette Davis took over, getting an Oscar nomination for her role for one of the greatest romantic films ever made. Now Voyager became Bette Davis' biggest hit of the decade, while Shearer made her disasterous final picture, Her Cardboard Lover (1942).
