Reviews:

“In some intimate scenes of the two sisters, Mr. Bell manifests a tendency to emulate Erich Von Stroheim and you are constantly made aware that cabaret girls must have silk stockings.
Norma Shearer takes her role seriously and gives a really fine performance. Lawrence Gray does the best work of his screen career as Joe, and Gwen Lee is capital as the giddy Maizie. This all means that a lot of talent is wasted on a childish yarn.”
Mordaunt Hall in the New York Times, August 16, 1927

“Norma Shearer plays well, hurt now and then by unflattering photography. Miss Lee, the wild sister, is highly convincing. The ex-crook is handled by Lawrence Gray suitable.”
Variety, August 17, 1927

“Monta Bell wrote this around a real cigarette girl in a Hollywood restaurant. Then he directed it with Norma Shearer as the young woman. The story, however, is the old yarn of the heroine who, dazzeled by money, is about to slip from the straight and narrow path. This time her sister is killed after a drunken party and everyone reforms. Not worthy of Miss Shearer and Mr. Bell. Mediocre stuff.”
