Endorsements From Norma Shearer

Norma’s biggest claim to fame back in New York was posing as “Miss Lotta Miles” for the Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company. She also endorsed other products throughout her career in show business.

A notable moment back in New York was when Norma was featured on a magazine cover posing as a young wife admiring her husband’s socks. Since they posed separately, Norma had no chance to meet the young Fred Bickel at the time. Twelve years later they met on the set of Smilin’ Through. Young Bickel had changed his name to Fredric March.

She said of her career at this point:

"I posed with a strand of widely advertised imitation pearls. I posed in a dust-cap and house dress with a famous mop… For a dental paste and, posing for advertisements for a St. Louis soft drink, held my mouth in a whistling pose until it all but froze that way." (From Norma Shearer: A Life)

Unfortunately, not many of these advertisements have survived the test of time. All of the pictures, with the exception of the Max Factor advertisement with Joan Crawford, come from Norma's Divas Gallery. Enjoy the small collection here:
